Netflix hit Wednesday returned with one part of the lOng-expected second season by Tim Burton Family Addams spindle. Jenna Ortega goes back into those black single shoes with new mysteries as new threats rise against the outsiders of Nevermore Academy– But while we mostly enjoyed what the first four episodes brought to the table brought, there are a few things we really hope the second falls.
We loved: more Adams -family antique
With Pugsley (Isaac Ordez) attending Nevermore Academy with his sister this season, the rest of the Clan Addams finds more reasons to be model parents and stay involved with the school – much to Wednesday’s dismay. She may not like more time with Morticia (Catherine Zeta-Jones) and Gomez (Luis Guzman), but we definitely do.
We loved: Camp Jeriicho
Speaking of the two, they get a joyous arch when Gomez volunteers to Chaperone Nevermore’s camp along with Morticia, which leads to him to revive the dangers of his school glorious days while maintaining his children’s independence. Guzman plays Gomez with such Pizazz, he is pure joy even when we care that his brain is inserted. Seeing Wednesday reluctant to join the camp fun to hit the Normie -Scout troop trying to claim the camp as their was an explosion – even as the gray reward of the story gave us some summer vibrations.
We loved: Bianca and Wednesday working together
Season one pricked Bianca (Joy Sunday) and Wednesday against each other as part of Nevermore’s school contest. But after they collaborated to save the school (and kill a demon), it was great to see their unlikely partnership bloom, dealing with the toxic manhood of the Scout troop at Jeriicho, who tried to push the outsiders. We can’t wait to see their powers again.
We loved: Bianca leading Nevermore
Joyful Sunday gets so much more to make Bianca this time, and it’s such a empowering improvement for a fan of a fan. We see her an ongoing development of being both the Nevermore Mean Girl and Xavier former, until standing on equal land with Wednesday as one of the rescuers of the school. Bianca is one of the biggest forces of season 2, gaining the reins as she leads the student body And As one of Wednesday’s closest allies, practically being the only person close enough to her that she can get Wednesday to act on her deeply hidden care for her peers.
We loved: The Drama’s Drama vision of Enid
One of the biggest dramatic conflicts in Season 2 is between Enid (Emma Myers) and Wednesday, after this -last receives a vision of the previous destruction, doing so partly because of Wednesday itself. Virtually her only and best friend coming into the season, Enid is the Watson to Sherka Wednesday – and finally Wednesday cares for her so that she is ready to go through the pain of exterminating her from her life until she can avoid the fate of looking at her vision, putting herself in the process. The drama focusing on her love for Enid gave part one really strong emotional core, one we really want to see, continue to thrive in the remaining episodes.
We loved: Morticia’s motherhood
Morticia being around more this season means we spot her Grapple with how actually being there on Wednesday. She knows that her daughter loves her limits, but we see her care about how her visions push her to harm, just as they did the mystery, missing sister of Morticia, Ophelia. The conflict between mother and daughter taking more room on the show speaks why The Family Addams There is such a timeless home name. They have always been a model family in pop culture that stands out of love, radical acceptance and deep understanding, but that is not yet without growing pain and the need for generational healing.
We loved: the rogue family feuds
It is already a lot in Season 2, but it was pure fun only in Wednesday’s grandmother (Joanna Lumley) to agitate the pot. Lumley not only fun me, her arrival lets the show raise so many more questions – her relationship with Morticia, the mystery over Aunt Ophelia, even about Wednesday’s love for cruelty. It is always that family member who is the drama, and they know it; In this case, it is absolutely the scoundrels … and especially Mon-Herita Hester Frump, who is accidentally the goal of Chief Dort (Steve Buscemi) for mass gifts for the school.
We loved: Pugsley’s Chaos
Pugsley is a sweet summer child whose tendency to chaos is never as thought out as his sister. It is a murderous moment when he rashly decides to revive the body under a skull, leading a comedy of errors in Pugsley’s wake – one he will definitely need help with repair. But hey, we love a moment of a zombie horror show, especially one that could be more sinister than anything else we’ve seen so far.
We loved: Tyler and Wednesday love/hostile dynamics
Wednesday certainly knows how to choose them! Tyler (hunter Doohan) and Wednesday have a very hot reunion in Season 2, where you are not sure if they want to destroy each other or just invent. It gives Buffy and Angel Energy, in the best way possible. We can’t help but want the best for them, but can Hyde really change? A big sticky point we have with the first part seems to suggest, at least now … not really. More about that soon.
We didn’t love: all new students from Nevermore
There’s already a lot of this season, and throwing a completely new bunch of Nevermore Kids so we try and follow didn’t help. They all gave part one excessive feeling and got the way of characters we cared, especially the height of a red -haired red herring Agnes to the role of unpaid intern at Mystery Inc. From Wednesday Inc.
We didn’t love: boss dort
Nevermore Academy is simply not the same without boss Larissa Weems (Gwendolyne Christie). Steve Buschemi as boss Dort is another fabulous thin character -activity of the great actor, and he does a great job at being a deceitful, gas lighting old Geezer. Just in the first half of the season, filling his need to get money for the school, and exploiting Bianca’s powers to do it, felt rough in an offensive way instead of dramatic. And maybe it is supposed to feel that way, but the rocked release of the season leaves this suspension in a way that abused Bianca’s otherwise compelling role in the series.
We didn’t love: Enid’s boy problems
The love -triangle between Enid, Ajax (Georgie Farmer) and Bruno (Noah Taylor) is one of the most disruptive plots of the first part. We love that Enid has found herself and got more agency as she distances from Wednesday, but the suddenness she is pushed into a related triangular dynamics (just as Wednesday herself mostly comes out of one) only feels strange. It does not help that between wildlife over Bruno and being uncharacteristically significant to Ajax only leaves the story of Enid feeling as confusing as we are.
We didn’t love: the abrupt cliff
So yes, remember when we said we would have hope for Tyler and Wednesday as a couple? Tyler throwing Wednesday out of a window a kind of squashes. The abrupt cliffle leaves so many questions in the air, not answered in a very disordered way that feels forced to make people set for the second part. It is definitely amplified by the rocked release of the season, but even then, it is a cheap climax: we Know Wednesday’s life really can’t hang in the balance at this point in the series. It is a strange note to break the first part, especially since the teaser for the second part currently flowing after it in Netflix reveals that Wednesday is only in comma, instead of fatally condemned.
