Robert Prevost, the first pope from the United States American sports tie After being appointed Pope Leo, he quickly became the focus of global dialogue.
As a Chicago native, Prevost White socks Fandom revealed this week and it turns out he is not only a casual fan. On Friday, surfaced on social media to compete in the first game of the 2005 World Series.
Pure chance, Prevost showed the game on MLB on Fox Radio on the US Cellular Field on October 22, 2005, and the camera grabbed him at the top of the ninth inning as the White Sox beat the Houston Astros 5-3.

The White Sox went on to win the series in four games, the only championship since 1917.
When his brother John Prevost was interviewed by WGN-TV, Prevost was first revealed as a white sock fan.
“He has always been a Sox fan,” John said.
But the Pope’s rooted interest obviously may not end in baseball.
Reverand Robert P. Hagan is a friend of Prevost, a pastor at Villanova University, the pope’s alma mater, told sports About Prevost’s link to the New York Knicks and its star roster of former Villanova players.

“We’re looking at the Knicks because Jaylen (Brunson) and Josh (Hart) and Dont (Divincenzo) were there, now there, now Mikal (Bridge) was there,” Hagen said. “I think Pope Leo will still keep an eye on Nova Knicks. I think he’ll still keep an eye on the Wildcats, and I think he’ll be proud of who he is and play in a way that they have a certain spirit and selflessness.”
Leo XIV was first brought to the Vatican by Pope Francis in January 2023 to become commander of the bishop, one of the most important positions in the Catholic Church because it rejected the bishop nomination issued worldwide.
Francis then promoted him to the position of Cardinal in September 2023.
Leo is reportedly closely aligned with Francis’ teachings Catholicism Embrace more followers.

In 2015, Leo obtained Peruvian citizenship. He stayed in Peru until he was moved to the Vatican in 2023.
In his last few years in Peru, Leo also served as Vice-Chairman of Peru’s Permanent Council from 2018 to 2023, which may have helped him secure the position of Dicastery, Bishop under Francis.
