With the addition of Best Traditional Country Albums, the current Best Country Album category has been renamed to Best Contemporary Country Albums. Meanwhile, the existing best recording packages and the best boxed or special limited edition categories have been merged into the best recording packages.
In addition to introducing new categories, the Recording Academy also shares many updated eligibility requirements. Nominees for Best New Artist can now include artists who were previously nominated for album of the year, but whose work is less than 20% of the match time. Artists are still eligible for Best New Artist in projects nominated for one of the past best albums.
Now, the physical product qualification requirements for the Best Recording Pack, Best Album Notes and Best History Albums include the physical album pack sold directly through the artist or Label website. In the classic category, composers and lyricists/liberals are now eligible for nominations.
In the classical category, composers and lyricists/liberttists are now eligible to win Grammy Awards along with all other key creatives, including artists, producers and engineers, to win albums.
