Former New York State Government Andrew Cuomo He was the reason President Donald Trump never sent the National Guard to New York City in the violent George Floyd riots of 2020.

Cuomo’s comments, published in the second of two major Democratic debates by the mayor of New York City, were asked about how to deal with the current situation against the protests and the president’s decision to participate in military personnel.

“President Trump did this, and Trump won. He did this many times. He sent troops into cities across the country. It was he’s masculinity, authoritarian; he’s the commander-in-chief,” Cuomo replied. “He never sent them to New York because I said to him, ‘You’d better never send troops into New York. We don’t need them. It’s going to be a hostile act. It’s going to be a problem.”

New York City saw some of the biggest violence during the Floyd riots, but Trump never pointed out in the debate that Trump never deployed any federal agents there.

During a debate Thursday night, Cuomo said he would also defend New York City’s sanctuary city laws.

“Now, in this case, we will protect our immigrants. It’s a sanctuary city and we will defend the laws of the sanctuary,” Cuomo said. “We have one of the largest New York Police Department police in the United States of America. Donald Trump only chooses the battles he can win. He can’t win my battle as mayor of New York. ”
