The top finance officer and the mayor candidate of New York City, Brad Lander, was arrested by law enforcement officers on Tuesday when he tried to accompany a defendant before the immigration court, according to his spokesman.
A Video published on LANDERS account on X Shows the compatroller, which runs in the Democratic primary school for mayors and is tied up and led with handcuffs. He can be heard, as he says: “You don’t have the authority to arrest US citizens.”
The arrest of Lander, a progressive competitor in the area code of the next week, underlines the increasing political temperature in response to President Donald Trump’s deportation with protests and skirmishes, whereby the authorities break out across the country. It is only a few days after the democratic US Senator Alex Padilla was violently removed at a press conference in Los Angeles from Trump’s secretary for home protection, Kristi Noem, and tied up by foundations with handcuffs.
It was not clear why Lander tried to accompany the accused out of court. “During a defendant before the immigration court at the Federal Plaza 26 by Masked Agents and was imprisoned,” said Dora Pekec, Lander’s campaign spokeswoman for the US immigration and customs authority, the Financial Times.
An explanation of the X report by the US Ministry of Homeland, which ICE monitored, said that Lander had been arrested for attacking law enforcement and the disability of a federal official.
The democratic primary school is often seen as the main election competition for the mayor’s office, since only a few Republican candidates in New York City are in the foreground with the voters. Lander’s rivals condemned in the race and demanded his immediate release.
“This is the most recent example of the extreme brawl from Trump’s ice cream out of control – you can only imagine that families in our country in our country confront with ice cream,” said Cuomo.
Mamdani said to the FT: “Brad Lander’s arrest is the result of the authoritarian crisis in New York City towards Donald Trump and all those who enable him. They should not be celebrated for our neighbors of the immigrants.
