When Israel launches Operation Rising Lion, Russian officials have escalated the current Middle East to “shocking” and “dangerous”.
Despite this, the Russian media quickly highlighted the potential positives in Moscow.
Among them:
- Rising global oil prices are expected to boost Russia’s treasury
- The global focus is far from Russia’s war against Ukraine. “Kif Forgotten” is the title of Moskovsky Comsolus
- And if the Kremlin’s proposal to mediate in the conflict is accepted, Russia can portray itself as a key player and peacemaker in the Middle East, despite its actions in Ukraine
However, the longer Israel’s military operations last, the more meaningful it means to Russia from current affairs.
“The escalation of the conflict presents serious risks and potential costs to Moscow,” Russian political scientist Andrei Kortunov wrote in a Business Daily Kommersant on Monday.
“The fact remains that Russia cannot stop a massive strike in countries that Israel signed a comprehensive strategic partnership five months ago (Russia).
“Obviously, Moscow is not prepared to go beyond the political statements condemning Israel, but rather is ready to provide military assistance to Iran.”
The Russian-Iran strategic partnership agreement signed by Vladimir Putin and Masoud Pezeshkian earlier this year is not a military alliance.
Moscow did not have the defense of forcing Moscow to come to Tehran.
However, at that time, Moscow had a conversation about this.
Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov pointed out in an interview with RIA Novosti news agency that the agreement “focused on strengthening coordination for the interests of peace and security on a regional and global scale, and the aspiration of Moscow and Tehran to cooperate more closely on security and defense”.

In the past six months, Moscow has lost a key ally in the Middle East, Bashar al-Assad.
Syrian leader was granted asylum in Russia after he was ousted in December. The prospect of Iranian regime change is a major concern for Moscow, the idea of losing another strategic partner in the region.
Commenting on the development of the Middle East, Moskovsky Komsomolets concluded: “In current global politics, there are huge changes in real time that will directly or indirectly affect the lives of our country.”
Vladimir Putin will host its annual International Economic Forum in St Petersburg for most of the week.
The event was once called “Davos of Russia”, but the record label is not really applicable now.
CEOs of large Western companies have been away in recent years – especially since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
However, organizers claim that representatives from more than 140 countries and regions will participate this year.
Russian authorities will almost certainly use the incident to prove that attempts to isolate Russia in the Ukrainian war have failed.
It may be an economic forum, but geopolitics will never be out of reach.
We will closely monitor any comments from the Kremlin leaders about the Middle East and Ukraine.
