The LGBTQ+ Museum of the United States, a new space planned to open in New York City in 2027, announced today that it has elected fashion designers Michael Cross and his husband, Lance le Pere, took to the board. “We are delighted to join the board and become such a historic effort,” they said in a statement. “Preservation and celebration of LGBTQ+ history and culture is more important than ever. Our community has such a rich history and many stories.”
The construction of the museum’s physical space began in December 2024 on a new wing in New York’s historical history to the west of Central Park, while it has been offering public events and programming, most recently in the creation of “Queer Justice” in partnership with Lambda Legal, the exhibition in collaboration with Lambda Legal, detailing the history of its 50th anniversary legal organization.
“We are honored to have Michael and Lance on our board,” said the museum’s executive director Ben Garcia in a press release. “They bring tremendous expertise to philanthropy locally and globally, and we are excited to have incredible leadership, dedication and generosity around us.”
Kors and Le Pere are known for their support for the organization Including the love of God we offer, including the SOHO headquarters building in the name of designers, as well as the United Nations World Food Program, Roundabout Theatre Company, New York City AIDS Memorial Park and Lincoln Center Theatre, among others.
