Kell Brook believes that the undisputed super middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez’s size and power advantage will allow Terence Crawford to overcome in the September 13 battle.
The former welterweight champion Brooke noted that if Crawford (41-0, 31 KOS) fights A, it would be another story “Mediocre Champion” At the middleweight division, he has a good chance of winning. However, there will be too much for his 168 “good champion” to compete with “excellent champion”.
Skip the middleweight risk
Crawford skipped the 160-pound division. If he upgrades to middleweight and challenges IBF and WBO champion Janibek Alimkhanuly, he may lose to him. Janibek is bigger than Israel Madrimov, and the guy fought Crawford last August.

Brooke initially performed well against Golovkin, stagnating him in four rounds. However, an eye injury stopped Kyle’s progress in the fifth inning, forcing him to not cope with GGG’s pressure. But Golovkin is a 34-year-old and has better endurance than Canelo, 35.
The Mexican star couldn’t fight at the speed of Golovkin against Brooke. He doesn’t have the engine of Golovkin in the same age group. So, Canelo is as exhausted as Brook as GGG, which doesn’t mean he won’t win. He still has the strength and experience advantage over Crawford.
If Nebraska native rises to 168 in the year and he has left the field, he has a better chance of winning. He doesn’t want to risk losing and missing his huge $50 million payday.
“Fighting with middleweight, a mediocre world champion is OK. When you fight with someone like Canelo, it’s a different fish. I have to lean towards Canelo, but Crawford is very good.”
Well, Crawford didn’t even play middleweight. He rose to 154 in his last battle with Israil Madrimov, and did not even rule him. Madrimov, nicknamed “Little GGG”, made a number in Crawford’s face, approaching defeating him. Crawford is now adding two divisions to a larger punch with the September 13th in Canelo.
Brooke lost to Crawford in the fourth round in 2020. That’s not the main version of Kyle of Terence Beat. That’s the worn version of Gonadi Golov’s golden eye injury. When Crawford was at his best, it would be even harder to beat Brooke before GGG reached him and ruined a promising career.
Brooke compares Crawford and Mayweather
“When I look back at when (Floyd) Mayweather beat Canelo (2013), he was a move. Crawford wasn’t like Mayweather in that respect. In that respect. He was a little footstep. His footsteps cut his close range, shooting and moving. I think he was another fighter with Mayweather.
Crawford was once the promoter of a few years ago. When you look back at his battle with Viktor Postol in 2016, his mobility is comparable to Mayweather’s main level. But that was nine years ago. This version of Crawford no longer exists in 2025.
Terence had been in a difficult condition for years, robbing his footsteps and most of the hand speed at the time. What remains now is his IQ and his ambition to make money, and bear the responsibility of some boxing fans as the best fighter in the 168-pound division.
