New York – Sabrina Ionescu matches her 34-point season high to lead New York Freedom On Tuesday night, the return of the dream against Atlanta was the team rebounding in its first season defeat on the weekend.
Despite Ionescu’s 20 first-half scores, New York dropped 17 points in the third quarter and handed them a second straight game at the Indiana Heat. WNBA Advocate their first loss of the season on Saturday night.

But momentum quickly shifted midway through the quarter.

“I think we weren’t doing well, we didn’t have resilience, we didn’t have urgency,” said freelance coach Sandy Brondello of the first half of the game. “I think we found our identity, we found some energy… Sometimes we just need to play harder.”
New York made seven three-game mistakes in Atlanta in the first half, but the identity crisis quickly faded, lagging behind Ionescu and Breanna Stewart’s 11 points. New York won the 10th victory of the season with an 86-81 victory.

“We are proud of the way we fight. And, obviously, this game is easy to go in the other direction, we just give up and get frustrated, and I think you can see a team that stays together, really dig deep, and then figure it out,” Ionescu said after the game.

“I was very impressed with the ability to do this because we haven’t gotten into this this year – to fall down so big and have to try to get out of it, and I think all these experiences will work hard as we continue to play and the season continues.”
Ionescu recorded a season-high score of 34 points in Saturday’s fever. She hit the mark again Tuesday night, scoring back-to-back 30 points for the first time in her WNBA career.

Atlanta rookie Te-Hanketup leads Dream Allisha Gray added 14 points with 16 points, while Brionna Jones and Rhyne Howard both finished with 13 points.
