Kenya’s ‘miracle baby’ pastor died in road crash

Controversial Kenyan TV broadcaster Gilbert Deya claims to have caused a miraculous pregnancy, and he died in a road crash.

Police told local media that Deya died Tuesday night after an accident with a university bus and another vehicle near the town of Kisumu in western Kenya.

At least 30 people were reportedly injured, including one identified as a wife and a passenger, and 15 students riding the bus.

Deya, who runs a church in London, declared in the early 2000s that she could help sterile couples imagine “miracle” babies through prayer.

The investigation later linked his church to rings suspected of trafficking in children, and he was arrested and extradited from the UK about eight years ago in a decade-long legal battle.

He was acquitted two years ago on charges due to insufficient evidence.

On Wednesday, West Yaya County Governor James Orengo said he learned about “deep sadness and regret of Gilbert Deya’s death.”

He confirmed that the “terror” road accident involved vehicles belonging to the county.
