
Oscar-nominated French Canadian filmmaker Denis Villeneuve will direct the next James Bond movie, announced by Amazon MGM Studios.
Villeneuve said in a statement released by the studio that he was a “die-in-armed James Bond fan” and intended to “remembrance the franchise tradition.”
The future of the 007 movie has been speculating on the future after longtime Bond producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G Wilson Resign In February.
Villeneuve will also serve as executive producer for the new film and has received global acclaim for his recent view of the Dune series and hits such as Blade Runner 2049 and “Arrival”.
Amazon has no details about the next actor who plays James Bond in the announcement.
Villeneuve acknowledged that the “huge responsibility” of the host of the new film expressed his excitement for the challenge.
He said: “I watched James Bond movies with my dad since I was a kid.
“I intend to respect tradition and open the way for many new missions.”
He added that he and producers Amy Pascal and David Heyman were “happy to bring him (Bond) back to the screen.”
Mike Hopkins, head of Amazon’s MGM studio, called Villeneuve a “master of film” and praised him for providing audiences around the world with “immersive storytelling”.
“James Bond is in one of the greatest filmmakers today, and we can’t wait to start our next adventure in 007,” he said.
Pascal and Heyman added that the dream of making Bond movies is always dreamt, “We are lucky to be in the hands of this extraordinary filmmaker.”
It is not clear when the next Bond movie will be released, as it is looking for the next actor to play the titular spy.
British actors Aaron Taylor-Johnson and James Norton are rumored to be the leader, while Irish actor Paul Mescal’s name is also included.
Villeneuve has achieved a series of key successes, including Sicario, Princer and Inscies.
His 2016 science fiction thriller Arrival earned him his first Oscar nomination for guidance.
Recently, Blockbusters Dune and Dune: Part Two totaled over $1 billion (£730 million), with both films nominated for Best Picture Oscars in their respective years.
Villeneuve is expected to start shooting Dune Messiah, the third film in the Dune series, with a release date later this year in 2026.
