OpenAI Loses Four Key Researchers to Meta


Four Openai Surveyers Lets the company go to Meta, two sources confirm to Wired.

Shengjia Zhao, Shuchao Bi, Jiahui Yu, and Hongyu Ren joined Meta’s superintelligent team. Their Openai -slow profiles were deactivated. The information first reported on the departures.

It is the latest in a series of aggressive moves from Mark Zuckerberg, who races to capture to Openai, Antropic and Google in building artificial general intelligence. Earlier this month, Openai’s Director General Sam Altman said Meta made “giant bids” to Openai employees with “$ 100 million signing bonuses.” He added that, “None of our best people decided to participate.” Source at Openai confirmed the bids.

Hongyu Ren was the post-training lead of Openai for the O3 and O4 Mini models, along with the open source model, which is released this summer, says sources. Post-training is the process to refine a model after it has been trained on a primary database.

Shengjia Zhao is very skilled at deep learning -research, according to another source. He joined Openai in the summer of 2022, and helped build the GPT-4 model of the runway.

Jiahui Yu made an attitude at Google Deepmind before joining Openai at the end of 2023. Shuchao Bi was a manager of Openai’s multimodal models.

Openai’s departures come shortly after the company lost three researchers from its Zurich office, the Wall Street Journal reported.

Openai and Meta did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
