Speaking to Empire magazineReznor said the Ares Music band has “not one second of orchestra.” In fact, he went so that he called the music not only different from the first two films (respectively noted by Wendy Carlos and Daft Punk), but one who “takes a bigger swing for what the music can do in a movie without sounding a nasty pomp.” This was an active goal for the couple who had worked before Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, Soul, And The girl with the dragon tattoo, and Naughty Dog’s next science fiction adventure Intergalaxia: The Lost Prophet.
What kind of sound are the two cooking? According to Reznor, the Tron: Ares A score will be “accurate and unpleasant sometimes” without falling “atonal and punishing” territory. He and Ross wanted to focus on the businesses of the film’s story, which centers on Jared Leto’s Ares leaving the digital space for the human world. As such, the duo inserted “artificial roles” such as Ares and the Athenian Athens of Jodie Turner-Smith “to be infused by feelings and emotions and a sense of questioning their purpose and their replacement, their lack of soul, somehow.”
