Idaho firefighter ambush: man died in mountain with gun

Authorities confirmed late Sunday that a SWAT team shot and killed two firefighters and killed another firefighter while fighting wildfires in Idaho, a late man and a nearby gun.

The Kutai County Sheriff’s Office said the male of the deceased was located on Canfield Hill. A shelter was cancelled, but there were still active wildfires, the sheriff’s office said.

The International Firefighters Association confirmed that the two victims killed were firefighters hours later. About 300 law enforcement officers were on the scene.

“In response to the fire earlier today in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, members of Iraf were ambushed for violence. Our two brothers were killed by snipers, while the third brother is still in surgery,” the association said. “Please let them, their families and law enforcement be in your prayers.”

Dan Bongino, deputy director of the FBI, said the agency responded to the scene to provide tactical and operational support.

“The FBI’s technical team and tactical assets are currently being supported on the spot,” Bongino said before 9 p.m.

In a press conference, Kutnai County Sheriff Robert Norris said two firefighters were killed and one-third fought for his life, but were in stable condition after the surgery.

“We do believe that the suspects are starting to fire, and we do believe that it is an ambush, which is intentional,” he said, noting that preliminary investigations show that there is only one gunman. “This is an ambush. These firefighters have no chance.”

The sheriff said it made a suggestion around 6:30 p.m. to neutralize the shooter. Law enforcement can track cell phone signals of the suspect’s location.

He added that the fire damaged evidence at the crime scene, saying: “As the fire approaches, we need to scalp our bodies.”

It is not clear whether the suspect possesses multiple weapons. This determination cannot be made until the fire drops. The sheriff said the investigation will continue Monday morning. The crew will continue to work all night long.

Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office An alert was issued earlier Sunday afternoon saying: “Active shooters in Canfield Hills. Although the severity is reportedly unknown. Please avoid the area.”

Norris once said they were developing a plan that once they controlled the fire, they would immediately move people out of the mountain.

Norris earlier said the suspect used a “modern, high-power, sport rifle.”

“We’re opening a fire quickly,” Norris said.

Firefighters had to retreat due to the danger, and the brush fire continued to pose a threat. Authorities urge nearby residents to remain vigilant and act cautiously as the situation develops.

“I encourage all of you to tell people to stay away from the area and not come to the area. Stay away from the area,” Norris said earlier. “It will be, if these people are not neutralized anytime soon, it could be a multi-day operation.”

Attorney General Pam Bondi shared a statement and said he was heading to Idaho for more support.

“Thanks to our incredible @FBI agents for assisting local authorities in Idaho on the ground. We are praying for everyone,” Bondy wrote.

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem also said their departments are actively monitoring the situation and “replace justice.”

“When a fire broke out in Northern Idaho today, several heroic firefighters were attacked. It was an outrageous direct attack on our brave firefighters. I asked all Idahos to pray for them and their families while waiting for more. “As this situation continues to develop, please stay away from the area to allow law enforcement and firefighters to do their jobs.” ”

Idaho Attorney General Raul Labrador also responded to the situation, noting that it will never happen.

“There are reports that firefighters were shot dead while responding to the Idaho fire. These heroes gave their lives for us every day; they should never be targeted,” Labrador said. “Please let our first responders and their families carry your prayers.”

Norris said the sheriff’s office is in communication with the White House, the FBI and the governor’s office.
