Recently wear a medieval sword with rare symbols Exhibition at the Dutch MuseumMore than a year after the construction worker accidentally discovered it.
The discovery of the sword was made by The National Museum of Antiquities in the Netherlands (RMO) June 24 in Leiden.
The museum said in a press release that the artifact, known as the Linshout Sword, was discovered in a “maintenance dredging campaign” in March 2024.

The statement noted that a “long iron” hit the construction workers while cleaning a small river called Korte Linschoten.

The Linschoten sword is more than three feet long and dates back to the 11th century.
The museum notes that the pictures show the sword’s long off-road guard and shaped like a Brazilian nut.
“The blades are sharp on the edges and inlays and come with a golden copper strip, forming a circular pattern with a cross and an ‘endless knot’,” RMO said.
The medieval sword was a “rare discovery”.
The sword is likely made of high-quality iron mined on the local Veluwe hills. Experts believe it intentionally stores it in the river because there are no traces of scabbards or sheaths.
The museum also points out that the medieval sword was “a profound personal property.”

The extraordinary protection of the sword has little connection with the 11th century, a period marked by frequent conflicts Netherlands.
