The WNBA announced that Cleveland, Detroit and Philadelphia will receive franchises in the coming years and add Toronto and Portland. Cunningham wanted to know aloud if fans wanted to flock to the arenas in Cleveland and Detroit.

Cunningham Clarified her comment While speaking with reporters Thursday, and defending the “blue-collar workers” associated with Cleveland and Detroit.

“First of all, I know the history of the WNBA. I know both cities have teams before and they brought us to where we are, so I’m grateful for that,” she said. “What I really know is Broadway, it’s the wild lifestyle, so I think it’s really fun. I think Miami is fun. That’s all I do.”
“I think it’s fun to get some teams out of the NBA market. … I think people are completely misunderstood the situation. I’m never going to say it down to middle-class blue-collar workers. That’s where I come from. I’m from Missouri. I got Indiana from Missouri, which is why I sounded fun on Broadway, it sounded fun.
Cunningham also expressed strong opposition to her comments.
