Former New York State Government Andrew Cuomo Current New York City Mayor Eric Adams is urging each other to give up his mayor’s bid in the 2025 match against Democratic nominee Zohran Mamdani.
“I think everyone should be consistent behind the person who won the mayor,” he said. Adams said Monday At the press conference.

Cuomo, a three-term governor who resigned in 2021 in multiple scandals and made a political comeback, has been the leader in the mayor’s junior race until Mamdani closed the gap within weeks of the campaign.

Adams won the mayoral election as a Democrat in 2021. After multiple controversies, the mayor’s polls fell earlier this year, abandoning his Democratic reelection earlier this year.
While he admitted Mamdani’s victory in the junior night, Cuomo’s independence candidate who ruled under the New York State license opened the door.

Cuomo recently provided deadlines for candidates who already qualify as independents to reject that independent voting line.

Adams said in an interview with CNBC that in a recent conversation, the former governor asked him to resign.
“I said, ‘Andrew, are you so arrogant? I’m the current mayor!” Adams said of his conversation with Cuomo. “I’m the mayor of New York City, and you just lost to Zoran with 12 points.”
“They heard from you. You’re lost,” Adams added. “This is the highest level of arrogance.”

Adams’ poll numbers have fallen into five charges even before being indicted last year, accusing the mayor of bribery and fraud as part of an alleged “long-term” plan to profit from personal contact with foreign officials.

Azzopardi highlighted a proposal proposed by Walden last week that independent research should be conducted to see which candidate will be Mamdani’s strongest candidate, while weaker competitors agreed to withdraw.
Azzopardi believes Walden “correctly points out that if he, Mayor Adams and Governor Cuomo all run, that would almost guarantee a socialist victory. Jim proposed a fair independent investigation in September to determine the candidate qualifications in New York and the New York campaign is the strongest in November’s one-on-one match.”

“It’s time to abandon the usual political selfishness and agree to do the really best for all New Yorkers,” Azzopardi added. “When we review this proposal, we call on other candidates to do the same.”
Mamdani swept the main victory, thanks to a dynamic sport that focuses primarily on affordability and the high cost of living in New York City.
Representative recognition. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez – New York City’s most prominent progressive and two-time Democratic presidential runner-up Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders helped Mamdani consolidate the support of the left.
Mamdani has cleverly used social media platforms including Tiktok, along with low-key voters. He proposed to eliminate fares to ride New York City’s vast bus system, make CUNY (City University of New York) “free tuition”, freeze rent on municipal houses, provide “free parenting” for children under the age of 5, and establish a government-run grocery store.

Mamdani’s victory reinvigorates the Democratic Party’s long-term debate between its more moderate and progressive wings and between outsiders and institutions.
Regarding the election setback in November last year, when Democrats lost control of the White House and the Senate and failed to win a House majority, it reignited debate on party policy or messaging.
