Trade unions representing thousands Urban workers Officials said Wednesday that a deal was reached in Philadelphia and New York City to end a week-long strike, which stopped residential curbside garbage collection and affected other services.
Nearly 10,000 blue-collar workers District Council 33 The National Federation, county and municipal employees left their jobs on July 1, seeking better salaries and benefits after disagreeing with the city’s new contract.

The tentative agreement announced the ninth day of the strike.
Mayor Cherelle Parker The end of the strike and an agreement with the social media union was announced. “The work suspension involving District Council 33 and Philadelphia City has ended,” she said.

“We have reached a tentative agreement with District Council 33 that must approve a new three-year contract through its membership, coupled with the one-year contract extension we agreed last fall, will increase the salary of DC 33 members by 14% over the four years I served.”
District Council 33 is the largest of the four major unions representing urban workers. Its membership includes 911 dispatchers, garbage collectors, water department staff, etc. Police and firefighters are not part of the strike.

The union posted on Facebook Wednesday morning: “The strike is over!
The city has designated about 60 locations as drop-off centers for residential waste, but some have overflowed, while strikers have asked residents not to cross the pickets. Most libraries throughout the city were closed, and support workers and security personnel were not working.
