I moved to the UK thanks to Donald Trump

Since moving to the UK, American television star Ellen DeGeneres made her first public appearance, saying she decided to settle in England the day after Donald Trump was re-elected as U.S. president.

The comedian and owner told a group of people in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire that life is “good” in England.

Allen said she and her wife Portia de Rossi are considering getting married again in England after some moves in the United States have reversed the right to gay marriage, and that the United States may still “make people who they are.”

She also spoke about a toxic workplace charge that led to the end of a long-running chat show in 2022 and admitted she might be “very blunt” but treated the stories as “clickbait.”

Ellen is one of the most well-known American TV stations in 30 years, thanks to her daytime chat performances, as well as her 1990s sitcom, hosting the Oscars, Grammys and Emmys, and publishing Dory in search of Nemo.

After canceling the talk show, she attended the 2024 U.S. “The Final Stand Tour” and then bought a house in Cotswolds, a historic, picturesque area that mainly covers parts of Gloucestershire and Oxfordshire.

On Sunday, at Everyone Theatre near Cheltenham, she was talking to broadcaster Richard Bacon, who asked if she had moved because of Donald Trump. “Yes,” she replied.

The 67-year-old said she and De Rossi initially planned to spend three to four months a year in the UK and bought what they considered a “part-time home.”

“We arrived here the day before the election and woke up and our friends cried a lot of crying emojis and I was like, ‘He joined’,” she said. “We were like, ‘We’re staying here’.”

Ellen took to social media to catch a glimpse of her new country life, which shows videos of farm animals including sheep – although they have been sold after constantly escaping.

“It’s absolutely beautiful,” she said. “We’re just not used to seeing this beauty. Villages, towns and buildings – everything you see is charming, it’s just a simpler way of life.

“It’s clean. Everything is better here – the way the animals are treated, people are polite. I just love it here.

“We moved here in November, which wasn’t the ideal time, but I saw snow for the first time in my life. We love it here. Portia flew horses here, I have chickens, we have sheep for about two weeks.”

On her last tour, she joked that she was “twice out”, the first time she appeared as a gay person in 1997.

She effectively led to the end of her sitcom after telling the Cheltenham crowd on Sunday, and the network stopped promoting.

Bacon asked if her popularity encouraged others to come out. “I’ll say no,” she replied. “I imagine a lot of people poking out a hole like Meerkats and going back.’How is she? OK, no, no.

She continued that it was a “very tough decision” that wasn’t for everyone, and said today’s situation was better in some ways, but there were no other ways.

“If it was (better), I know that all the other people who are gay are gay and they’ll go out, but they’re not, because it’s still a problem. People are still scared.”

Allen quoted it A recent move by the Southern Baptist Congress Recognize the reversal of Supreme Court cases and allow same-sex marriage. At least nine state legislatures have introduced the same bill.

“Baptarian churches in the United States are trying to reverse gay marriage,” she said. “They are trying to literally stop it from happening in the future and possibly reverse that. Portia and I are already working on it, and if they do, we will get married here.”

Later, in answering the audience’s questions, she added: “I want us to be in a place where people are not scary. I want us to live in a society where everyone can accept others and their differences.

“So until we were there, I think there is a tough place to say we’ve made huge progress.”

But the younger generation is “more comfortable with it” and “just a smoother one.” “So I think the younger generation will show us the path.”

After some former workers on her talk show accused of toxic workplace culture, the star — ending every episode, telling viewers “kind to each other” — was called “meaning” in the media.

Three producers were fired after the scandal, fired on charges of misconduct and sexual harassment, and the final season of the show began to apologize.

She talked about this on the 2024 tour and the accompanying Netflix stand-up special.

“Anyway, any article comes up, like, ‘She’s mean’, like, how do I deal with it that is not like the victim or ‘poor me’ or complaining? But I want to fix this.

“It’s simple, I’m a straightforward person, and I’m very straightforward, I think sometimes that means…I mean it?”

She also said that saying someone is mean “maybe the worst thing you say to a woman”.

“How dare we have any mood, otherwise you have nothing but kindness, sweetness, kindness, obedience and complacency.”

She added: “I don’t think I can say anything to get rid of it (reputation) or remove it, it’s harmful to me. I hate it. I hate people thinking I’m that because I know who I am and I know I’m a compassionate, compassionate person.”

She said it was “of course an unpleasant way” to the talk show.

Allen said she missed her show “a lot” but did not think similar formats would work again.

“I mean, I hope to do that because I’m going to do the same thing here. I’d love to do it again, but I just feel like people are looking at phones or people aren’t really paying attention to TV because we’re so overwhelmed with information and entertainment.”

She said she didn’t know what she would do in the future, but would “very careful” to choose her next move.

“I just don’t know what that is,” she said. “I want to be happy, I want to do something. I love my chicken, but I’m a little bored.”
