A British woman died on a white water rafting trip in the French Alps.
The district attorney Marion Lozac’hmeur told the French news agency AFP that the woman fell down on the Guisane River in Briancon, southeastern France at noon Saturday (BST 11:00 BST).
Firefighters told local media that they were later found on the river bank and then airlifted to a nearby hospital.
Lozac’hmeur said the victim “unfortunately passed away last night”.
The Foreign Ministry confirmed a British woman died in France and said it was in contact with local authorities.
According to local news media Le Dauphin, the woman was part of an organized trip on the river, who said she was crossing a river called a “purse” when she fell.
She has not been named in local media or in authorities in France or in the UK.
Lozac’hmeur also said an “involuntary manslaughter” investigation has been conducted and an autopsy will be conducted.
