Jeannie Seely, known for her soul Country Songsalready dead. She is 85 years old.
Seely died Friday of an intestinal infection at Summit Medical Center in the Hermit House, Tennessee, on Friday, according to the Associated Press.
Country idols, including Dolly Partonpay tribute to Seely, known as “Miss Country Soul”.

“She is one of my dearest friends,” Parton said in her social media account. “I think she’s one of the biggest singers in Nashville and she has a great sense of humor. We laughed a lot together and weeped about something and she’ll be missed.”
Born on July 6, 1940, Titusville, Pennsylvania, locals performed on local radio when they were 11 years old.
She moved there Los Angeles In the early 1960s, she worked at Imperial and Liberty Records, working on her songwriting skills.

In 1965, Seely was encouraged to relocate to Nashville She performed on the Porter Wagoner Show and signed with Monument Records.
Seely was selected for Grand Ole Opry in September 1967, becoming one of the first women to regularly receive Opry. Throughout Opry’s tenure, she attracted audiences with 5,397 performances, the most appearing of any artist in the show’s history. Her last appearance was on February 22, 2025.
Seely’s outstanding career spans over sixty years. She was famous for her 1966 single “Do not Tight Me”, which was the popular song at the time ranked No. 2 on the Billboard Country chart.

Hank Cochran wrote “Don’t Touch Me.” This song won her first and only Grammy Awardsthe best national and western voice performance in the women category.
Cochran and Sely got married in 1969 and divorced in 1979.
Her other hits include “Can I sleep in your arms?” and “I love you (more than you need).

In addition to performances, Seely is also a talented songwriter. Her works are recorded by the legend of the country Willie NelsonDottie West and more artists.
Her second husband, Gene Ward, died in December. In May, Seely revealed that she is recovering after multiple back surgeries, two emergency surgeries and 11 days in the ICU. She also suffered from pneumonia.

“Healing is very difficult, but it looks brighter every day, and I saw a light at the end of the tunnel last night. It was neon, so I knew it was mine!” she said in a statement at the time. “Incredible Seely is working hard.”

Seely’s latest project was released in July 2024, with the cover of the project being Dottie West’s “Suffering Time,” recorded on the world-renowned RCA Studio B.
