The best cat videos of the Internet will be on the screen this weekend. Cat video is a 73-minute G-rated selection of All things cats – Be cozy, sentimental and comedic – that plays more than 500 independent theater in the USA and Canada.
Part of the ticket proceeds benefit from this Cat -oriented charity organizationsAccommodation and animal welfare organization. Over 1 million US dollars have been collected since 2019.
The videos are curated by Will Braden, the creator of the comedical existential shorts, Henri, Le Chat Noir based in Seattle. In his business cards it says: “I see cat videos.” And it’s not a joke or an exaggeration. Braden looks at thousands of hours of internet videos to make the annual compilation.
“I would like to show how wide the idea of a cat video can be so that animated things, music videos, small mini documentaries films,” said Braden. “It is not all I call” America’s funniest home cat videos “. Not all cats are in a bathtub.
The Cat Video Fest is now greater than ever in the eighth year, with a global presence that has already been extended to Great Britain and Denmark and for the first time to France, Spain, Japan and Brazil. Last year the demonstrations earned over 1 million US dollars at the box office.
In the early days it was a small process to convince independent film cinemas to program the cat video festival. But Braden and the indie distributor Oskilloscope Laboratories have found that one year is everything it takes to overcome this hurdle.
“Wherever it does, it wants to do it again,” said Braden.
The current theater partners include Alamo Drafthouse, IFC Center, Nitehawk, Vidiots, Laemmle and Music Crate. The demonstrations attract all target groups, from children and cats to hipsters and grandparents and everyone in between.
“It is one of the only things, maybe next to a Pixar film or Taylor Swift concertThat only appeals to everyone, ”said Braden.
And the plan is to continue.
“We will no longer have cat videos and we won’t go out the people who want to see it,” said Braden. “I just have to make sure that it is really funny and entertaining every year.”
