Brian Norman Sr. said it was on the Nov. 22 card, which was Turki Alalshikh hoped Devin Haney would fight his son WBO middleweight champion Brian Norman Jr.
Norman Sr. reveals Turki’s plan
It’s not Haney asking for this fight. Brian Sr. said the idea was to have Haney have a relaxing first fight with Jose Ramirez, then have him fight Ryan Garcia on his last two contracts.
However, Ryan’s loss to Rolly’Romero hurts things. This brings him out of the equation. Since then, Norman Jr. (28-0, 22 KO) becomes Hanney’s opponent by the second battle with his three-battle contract.
“That’s how this fight is. They (Turki Alalshikh) brought Brian Norman to him. It’s not that he is seeking this fight.” Fighthype About Turki Alalshikh hopes Devin Haney fights Brian Norman Jr.
Fans already suspect that it was Turki Alalshikh who brought up the fight, not Haney or his father Bill Haney. Why do the two want to mix it with the hardest punch in the 147-pound partition after Ryan Garcia rubbed the deck with the developer last year?
Since that night, we’ve seen Devin against Jose Ramirez in his first fight at Turki in Times Square in New York on May 2. He seemed afraid of interacting with Ramirez and chose to run all night. It’s against the older, over his major unified 140-pound championship. Norman, 24, is younger, bigger, stronger, and still moving forward. He did not reach his peak.
Turki’s Haney-Garcia plan failed
“He has a contract with Turki, which is a two-thirds deal. One is (Jose) Ramirez and Ryan Garcia twice. With Ryan Garcia, he quits. So, I think they try to find him (Haney) two fights. So Brian Norman fights us first.”
Turki paid Devin the money, and you can understand why he chose Norman Jr. He hopes to give him a gentle opponent in the first battle of his three battle contracts, which allows him to fight Ramirez. It is understandable that Turkey is willing to let Hanni fight him, because it is important that he wins two battles with Ryan Garcia. What he didn’t consider was that Rolly’Romero was too good for Ryan.
“I gave Devin Haney a step up and accept the fight. He didn’t seek it. It gave us a chance to put his name on the resume because it was a much-needed name on our resume,” said Norman Jr.
