A woman was arrested in the United States for allegedly impersonating a registered nurse.
Fearing about her qualifications, the hospital owner conducted a police investigation after he terminated the fall Badisa contract.
Investigators found that the 29-year-old provided medical services to 4,486 patients between June 2024 and January 2025.
“This is one of the most disturbing medical fraud cases we have ever investigated,” Flagler County Sheriff Rick Starley said.
Bardisa was employed at Adventhealth Palm Coast Parkway from July 2023 to January 2025.
She was accused of submitting false documents and providing a license number belonging to the nurse, whose name was the same, while Adventhealth attended another hospital.
The sheriff’s office said she has explained the difference, claiming she recently got married and changed her last name. She was asked to provide her marriage certificate, but never provided it.
In January, Bardisa received a promotion. A colleague reported her to authorities when she realized her nursing assistant license had expired.
Her contract was then terminated and a seven-month criminal investigation was initiated.
Detectives issued a warrant for her on seven counts of a health care industry that practiced without permission and seven counts of fraudulent use of personally identifiable information.
She was arrested at her home on August 5, wearing a scrub.
“The woman may have pretended she was not alone and violated the trust of patients, family, rest health and the entire medical community, putting thousands of lives at risk,” Staley said.
The Sheriff’s Office has established a dedicated email address, fakenursecase@flaglersheriff.com, for those who believe they are treated by 29-year-olds.
Bardisa has been detained at Sheriff Perry Hall prisoner detention, where she was detained on a deposit of $70,000 (about £52,000).
