Pentagon press secretary Kingsley Wilson announced the project at a press conference Thursday, noting that construction began in July.
“From then on, the initial detention capacity of 1,000 illegal foreigners is started, and the initial operational capacity may be achieved between mid- to late August,” Wilson said. “Once the Department of Defense achieves its initial stand, we will complete the construction of up to 5,000 beds in the coming weeks and months.”
Wilson said the facility will be the largest product of its kind in U.S. history, serving what she calls “this key mission: deportation of illegal foreigners.”

“We are proud to work with President Trump and Secretary Norm because they eliminate the worst through this innovative partnership,” Braun said in a statement Tuesday. “Indiana is taking a comprehensive and collaborative approach to combating illegal immigration and will continue to lead the pathways between countries.”
The project is funded by a settlement bill signed last month by Trump, which he called “a big and beautiful bill.”
this Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said the legislation provided funding for the 287(g) program, which promoted cooperation between immigration and customs enforcement (ICE) and local authorities, as well as 80,000 ice detention beds.

According to the Department of Homeland Security, individuals who voluntarily leave the country are eligible for $1,000 in incentives and free travel, which may re-enter the law in the future.
Another facility, informally known as “Crocodile alcatraz,” Opened this summer under the supervision of federal officials and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis. It is the stage center for deportation.
The facility was initially funded by the state and will also receive support from the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Currently, it has 2,000 people and is expected to double its capacity. Deportation flights began late last month.

The facility was transformed from a retired airport in the Everglades. According to WJHL, there may be a second center. State officials face criticism from immigration and environmental advocacy groups in the location and purpose of the facility.
