Wildfires force Türkiye to close the Dadaner Strait to transport


The country’s transport ministry said the Dadanell Strait has been temporarily closed to maritime traffic due to forest fires in northwestern Türkiye.

It said the main international waterway was closed, a precautionary measure as the fire spread near the city of Kankkell, where many residents had been evacuated.

Turkish firefighters have been deployed to try to control the fire. Professional firefighting aircraft and helicopters are also in use.

Dardanelles connects the Aegean Sea with the Marmara Sea. Together with the Bosporus Strait, it is an important avenue of commercial transportation between Europe and Asia.
