The NFL reportedly sent a memo to its 32 teams on Friday suggesting they improve safety after a fatal shooting in the league’s New York City office on July 28. According to ESPN.
It is reported that the memorandum was NFL All team owners and the president’s chief security officer and general counsel, and made three suggestions:
- Updated threat assessment to correctly mitigate and identify risks
- Whenever a player or employee is on the court
- Weapon screening into team and league buildings

“The committee is aware that these changes will affect day-to-day operations and require investment in time, coordination and resources,” the memo said. “However, there is no priority higher than the safety and security of our players, coaches, staff and everyone working around and around our facilities.
“At moments like this, we remind us that security is not a background feature. It’s basic.”
Authorities said four people were killed and five people were injured in the building, which was the headquarters of Blackstone and the NFL.
