Gay news reporter Andrew Sullivan said Thursday that the LGBTQ movement lost ground in the United States because it was already “radical”.
In The New York Times Guest paperSullivan marvels at how the gay rights movement exchanges the legacy of civil rights success for radical ideas that are closing down modern Americans, such as trying to rewrite biological rules and advocate for transgender treatment of children – while demonizing Americans who are not in these ideas.
“Far from celebrating victory, defending gains, and staying alert, it is as a movement to achieve its core goals (including the end in the United States) as an unstoppable plague – Gay rights The opposite is true for the group. They were shocked by the wider liberal transfer of the remaining “social justice” and they were radical. ”

After winning most of the victories in gay, lesbian and trans civil rights over the past few decades, Sullivan details the changes in the gay rights movement. He is talking about “a new and radical gender revolution” to end radicals’ view as oppression of sexual binary, some critical gender and queer theorists associated with ‘white supremacy’, “making a natural difference between men and women in society” and “gender identity” in law and culture replaces “natural difference between men and women.”
He also said that modern LGBTQ activists redefine homosexuality “not as a neutral fact as a human condition, but as a liberation ideology “queer” intended to subvert and ‘queer’ language, culture and society in many different ways.”
Sullivan added that due to this shift, the term “gay and lesbian” in LGBT has almost disappeared.
Sullivan continued that the term “Queer” was a way to sum up the new regime, which clearly showed that it was indeed a different movement from the gay, lesbian and trans civil rights movements of the past. ”
The author said that although he said he welcomed some of the changes brought about by this modern movement, he said he “had not bought it at all.”

“I don’t and don’t believe that men or women have nothing to do with biology. My sexual orientation is based on the biological difference between men and women: I’m attracted to the former, not the latter. Should I believe that this difference does not exist now?”
He called this development “crazy” and “writing”, but abolished sexual binary for the entire society? This is another thing entirely. I believe in madness. What if I redefine straight and impose it on straight people? ”
“They asked the whole society to change in a basic way so that the sexual binary is no longer calculated,” he said.
He said another major problem with this new version of the gay rights movement is Children’s sexual orientation.
Sullivan continued: “But this liberalism has made a fateful, strategic mistake. In the gay rights movement, there is always a silent golden rule: keeping children out. We are very aware that any over-disclosure person out there can inspire the oldest blood slander against us: we ask for help and abuse children… So, what are the treatments of gender revolutionaries? What are they? They will be busy with children, almost on the attention of children.
He details how supporters of gender ideology teach children how to “become a boy or girl is something they can choose and change at will”, allowing biological men to participate in female sports, in some places, in some places to allow children to socialize in school without the knowledge or permission of their parents.”

The author then mentioned “the most radical: gender care for minors, which may lead to irreversible sexual changes in children.”
After mentioning the emergence of these radical positions, Sullivan points to the current polls that show people’s concerns LGBTQ motion erosion. “In 2021, for example, 62% of Americans said trans athletes should only play on gender-matched teams; by 2023, that number has risen to 69%.
“When people who know trans people were surveyed, only 40% supported their competition in teams that matched gender identity in 2021; by 2023, it dropped to 30%, he said. “When it comes to medical issues, 46% of Americans support banning health care services related to gender shifts in minors. Today, as people learn more, 56% do it.”
Sullivan went on to point out that the gay rights movement has a foothold between the political center and the right “lost” because of this radicalism.
“Gallup showed that Republican support for gay marriage fell from 55% to 46% between 2022 and 2025,” he wrote.

Sullivan ended his work, urging fellow liberals to protect the success of gay rights movements rather than sacrifice them for radical ideology.
“Let’s not throw it away,” he said.
