Arkansas State Police Chief Mike Hagar said at a press conference that Clinton and Christine were killed with stabbing and used a knife as a weapon of alleged murder.

Hagar said the attack appeared to be random, adding that there was no indication that the couple was targeted.

“It seems like a completely random event,” Hagar said. “We have no reason to believe that there is any known connection between our suspect and the victim.”

Blood at the crime scene assists authorities in finding out who the suspect is. Hagar said DNA was used to link McGarn to the so-called murder.

McGarn passed all the background checks required by the school district, a spokesman said.

Springdale Public School Principal Jared Cleveland told Fox News that McGann had not started his position in the school district at the time of the murder.

McGann “had no time” with the student or his family, but did not provide other information, citing proactive investigations, Cleveland said.

The mother of a former student in McGann’s class told Fox News that she filed a complaint against the teacher in 2024, accusing her son of seeing McGann inappropriately treating the female students in his class.

A letter received by parents showed McGarn was sent to administrative leave while investigating complaints about professional judgment issues and poor classroom management.

McGann resigned after the investigation concluded, and his classroom management and judgment were lower than regional expectations, but found no evidence of boring behaviors of students in his class.

“Mr McGarn informed our HR department on Wednesday afternoon that she decided to resign immediately, effective immediately,” the district said in an email to parents. “We will have a replacement teacher in his class for the rest of the school year.”
