Artur Beterbiev was in the “Champion Night” in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia in a botched-back against Deon Nicholson (22-1, 8 KOS).
Beterbiev’s bot card returns
Beterbiev (21-1, 20 KOS) wants to fight Dmitry Bivol in the trilogy, but it hasn’t happened yet. The choice of Alabama native Nicholson is an incredible alternative.
Nicholson lost an inning on his resume, the third round of knockout against Nigeria’s Efetobor Apochi in April 2021. It’s impossible to know if Nicholson has improved because his opposition is so bad. He won the past eight battles and defeated five of them.
We don’t know why Artur and his team agreed to this guy, not a talented contender. Due to the high risks involved, senior contenders may expect to fight the 40-year-old former undisputed lightweight champion Beterbiev.
Beterbiev suffered his first career failure earlier this year, losing his 12-round decision in Riyadh. Although Bivol looks great in stretching, Beterbiev was under pressure early on and had bad trouble on the 12th. The battle was supposed to be a draw, but the judge joined Bivol, promoted by Eddie Hearn.
The strange reality of Betbiff
For Beterebiev, it must be strange for him on Benavidez-Yarde Undercard rather than on the main event. It shows how far the fighter can slide when it suffers losses.
It is not clear where the Beterbiev-Nichoslon battle will be played on the card. To bury it below other battles, this will be the pain medicine that Artur swallows. Not only did he lose a controversial decision in the last battle, but now his battle is placed near the bottom of the main card.
