Former U.S. President Bill Clinton and his wife Hillary are a series of high-profile names that received subpoena from a congressional committee to testify that the deceased’s sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
House Oversight Committee Chairman, Republican James Comer, sent a subpoena to the Clintons and eight others on Tuesday.
The committee is looking for more information about Epstein’s history after President Donald Trump decided not to release more federal archives about the late financiers.
The decision has sparked anger among Trump supporters and some liberals, as many believe the documents include a “customer list” of famous men associated with Epstein.
During the Obama, Trump and Biden administrations, subpoenas invested extensive networks in the Justice Department’s leadership, and the committee also subpoenaed the department’s own records related to Epstein.
According to Merrick Garland, who heads the department by former President Joe Biden, according to Comer.
The two lawyers served Trump’s term, as did Jeff Sessions and William Barr.
Former FBI directors James Comey and Robert Mueller will also be forced to testify before the committee.
It is unclear whether the individuals named by Comer will eventually appear before the committee and if so, they will testify publicly.
Federal prosecutors accused Epstein of sexual trafficking in minors and other crimes in 2019 during the first Trump administration.
Later that year, he died of suicide in prison, which raised questions and rumors about his death during his detention.
This summer, current U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi announced that the Justice Department reviewed his Epstein record and found no evidence of a long-standing “customer list.” She also said supporting evidence of his suicide during his detention, the federal government will no longer release its files.
The announcements have sparked anger among some people at Trump base who believe his administration is not about Epstein-related material.
During a rare break with President Trump, several members of the House Republican caucus called for more investigation into the case.
Comer’s subpoena shows that the House Oversight Committee, which has important investigative powers, will continue to provide information to the Trump administration.
