Devin Haney’s father Bill Haney said Jaron “Boots” chose “the biggest bag” to fight Devin at the age of 147 because he chose to move up to 154 without facing him. Bill noted that Brian Norman Jr. and Teofimo Lopez could not bring the kind of money Devin fought against Ennis.
Bill is talking about money, not talent. WBO middleweight champion Norman Jr. (28-0, 22 KOS) will be Ennis’ nightmare compared to Devin, who looks like a yo-yo against Ryan Garcia, repeatedly up and down the canvas last year. Teofimo will also be hard to fight for boots. No wonder he chose to go up to 154 instead of staying at 147, risking his losses.
Bill Haney slams Ennis’s Choice
“The biggest bag of the boots is Devin, 147. This boots are fighting on the table. I respect his move, but let’s make it happen, Teofimo Lopez and Brian Norman xsuggesting Jaron “Boots” Ennis made a career mistake of elevating to 154 in the battle with Devin Haney in 147.
If Bill wants Devin to hit the boots hard enough, he will offer to get him to 154 to fight him. With Haney hydrating to the mid-160s, he was big enough to advance to the middle school welterweight class and if the game he wanted was bad enough, he could face Ennis in that weight class. Devin lost to the boots better than staying at 147 and being beaten by Richardson Hitchins.
Haney-Hitchins: Low Dough Fight
If Haney had fought Hitchins, he wouldn’t have had a lot of dough because he was unpopular and hadn’t beat anyone. No, George Kambosos doesn’t count, nor does Liam Paro. Unless Turki Alalshikh is interested in funding Haney’s battle with Hitchins, this battle is not worthy of Devin. Therefore, Devin is better to raise to 154 in order to chase Ennis.
Eddie Hearn in Ennis 154
Eddie Hearn Matching room boxing About Jaron Ennis. “He said, ‘I’m not as strong as I should. Look at me at 154.'” “This guy will be feared in everyone at 154. Not only at 154. At 160 around next year. He’s a huge guy.”
All we know is that the boots had a chance to fight last February’s Vergil Ortiz Jr. but didn’t accept it. He then faces Teofimo Lopez, without pulling the trigger in the fight. Instead of taking the three killers, he chose to fight Eimantas Stanionis.
“Those extra seven pounds will be huge. So, back in August or September, we’re ready for everyone. VergilOrtiz, Murtazaliev, Fundora, anyone you want. For my boots, 100% Jaron Ennis, Jaron Ennis, will be unparalleled.”
