In the five years of its launch, Bookstore.org accumulated the loyal aftermath completely. The Internet trader shares his sales revenue with bookstores around the United States, and has become a popular destination for online customers, which would rather help keep their local bookstore in business than sending money to big traders like Amazon. So far a bookstore has been successful through the sale of physical books. Today a bookstore is expanding its efforts to the Digital Kingdom.
Bookshop.org officially sells ebooks now. Or, as the company would put it, a bookstore now enables local bookstores to sell those ebooks themselves through their market. The company has launched its official Ebook platform today, complete with an app (on Android and iOS) to buy and read digital books.
Bookstores can use the platform to sell eBooks directly to customers, and when they sell, the store gets all the money. Customers can also browse all eBooks to be sold on the web, then choose which bookstore to support with their purchase. In this case as well, the chosen bookstore gets all the money. (If the customer does not choose a store to support, a bookstore puts part of the profits into a divided pool distributed between independent shops, but keeps the rest to finance its operation.)
Andy Hunter, general manager of a bookstore, sees a burning need for a better way to buy ebooks.
“It’s crazy that bookstores can’t sell ebooks to their customers now,” Hunter says. He says he wants this program to continue his company’s mission offering local bookstoresBut he also hopes that this move will help drop Amazon as well.
“I know a lot of people who love their local bookstore, support them different That.
Bookstore launched in January 2020Just weeks before the world closed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Physical bookstores, like many IRL traders, faced an existential threat when large masses of people closed inside. Many shops have already struggled against Amazon’s goals More purchases online. A bookstore landed right at the right time to provide something of a crypto for wrestling bookstores and offer an alternative to bury more money in Amazon’s Maw.
It may not have saved every bookstore or overturned any commercial empires, but a bookstore has done well – and proved popular among readers eager to support independent shops. At the time of this writing, a bookstore says it raised more than $ 35 million for local bookstores.
“Everyone wants diversity in the landscape,” a hunter says. “Whether you like Amazon or not, everyone understands that it is a healthier market for books when you have a whole bunch of players selling and in competition with each other.”
