A so-called dream home for literature lovers has been put on the market in Columbus, Ohio, with walls packed with walls 7,000 hardcover books And dramatic floor-to-ceiling shelves – and listed for $1.6 million.
According to news agency SWNS, the house was customized as a “study room” to evoke the feeling of a historic German country cottage.
Although the building is aged from the outside and has mirrored the building from the early 20th century, it is a modern dual-unit property with high-end features that can be used as short-term luxury rentals.

The home covers 4,536 square feet of land and has two living units with a total of eight bedrooms and six bathrooms, providing plenty of accommodation to sleep up to 24 guests.
SWNS said the property was reportedly considered an immersive design experience, with each detail “combining retro features and modern conveniences.”

To bring his vision to life, developer Guy Marshall began collecting books for the project.
SWN reports that in the end, he amassed about 7,000 hardcover books, which he only costs 10 cents.

The list describes the property as an ideal entertainment space with open layouts, modern amenities and a location from downtown Columbus, the German village, and a Children’s Hospital nearby.
“One of the more compelling features includes floor-standing bookshelf with library ladders and over 7,000 hardcover books across each room,” the list reads.

SWNS said short-term accommodation experts’ rent forecasts estimate that the home could bring in about $273,000 in annual revenue.
Marshall said every element of the design was chosen intentionally.

This includes the exterior, made of dyed and finished concrete blocks, similar to aging masonry.
“The single-layer, one-foot-thick wall reflects the walls of buildings built in the early 1900s,” he said, emphasizing an intention to guide the aesthetics and durability of historical craftsmanship, from antique lighting fixtures and custom iron pieces to reclaimed barn bundles and animals.

Although Marshall said the additional investment is worth creating something unique and memorable, while the cost of building is much higher than a typical stick-frame home.

He added: “That’s why I designed it as a high-end short-term rental: increase revenue and share it with guests from all over the place.”

A Facebook commentator wrote that in response to social media posts about the list, “just thinking about the amount of dust collected on all of these books, I needed to use an inhaler.”
