Mickey Bey reminds everyone that he is not done yet. Former world champion Oscar Escandon succumbed in just three rounds in the main event at Swift Proportions in Newtown, Pennsylvania.
Bey (26-3-1, 14 Kos) releases, fast and locks. Escandon (27-10, 18 KOS) never walked – a clean left hook made a cut early, and by the end of the first round, it was obvious who Sharper Man was. Bay put him down at the end of the second round and advanced again in the third round, forcing referee Eric Dali to wave at 2:03.
“I don’t want to rush,” Bey said later. “I let my body do what I train.”
He calls himself a “time machine” and the fighter that uses that nickname at once actually means. The 40-year-old shows that he still has enough big-name fights in the tanks – maybe two. If you think this is a farewell trip, think about it again.
Garcia
The trump card is full of young violent talents.
David Garcia is 16 years old and has fought like a veteran killer without wasting time. His glittering MMA crossed the Marcelino Rangel and stopped him with a cruel result at 2:53 in the first round. With four battles, Garcia looks like one of the best prospects in the country.
Kuchmenov? monster. 5’10” Russian super lightweight car raced six rounds along Diuhl Olguin. Each fist landed like a person. Olguin did not answer the bell of the seventh round – no one blamed him. The judge named it 60-54 throughout the race.
18-year-old Elijah’s “horse man” Gonzalez landed in one of the cleanest right hands of the night. He stopped Codi Chavez in the fourth round after two drops. Gonzalez boxed with bad will – the kind that you’ll notice quickly.
Jonathan Rodriguez returned from nearly a year and threw in eight safe rounds on Jesus Martinez. Not spectacular, but sturdy. The 80-72, 80-72 and 79-73 cards reflect the overall control. He got a job.
Thanjhae Teasley remained unbeaten in the six-round seats of Nelson Morales. The body’s left hook does most of the damage, but the Morales doesn’t fold as usual. The judge handed it to Teasley Clean: 60-54 around.
Rommel Dunbar Jr. made a solid debut. Clean boxing, good pace and smart body work throughout the stretch.
