Brazilian judge orders House of Representatives to arrest former president

Brazil’s Supreme Court has ordered former right-wing president Jair Bolsonaro to be arrested.

He is on trial for allegations that he planned a coup, He denies.

President Donald Trump used Mr. Bolsonaro’s trial, which he called “Witch-Hunt” as a justification for imposing a 50% tariff on Brazilian goods, despite the U.S. trade surplus with Brazil.

The judge responsible for investigating Mr. Bolsonaro, Alexandre de Moraes, said the decision was because Mr. Bolsonaro had not complied with the restraining orders against him last month.

The United States also approved Mr Moras saying that Mr Bolsenro used his allies’ social networks, including his son, to spread messages encouraging attacks on the Supreme Court and foreign intervention in the Brazilian judiciary.

A pro-Balsenro rally was held in various Brazilian cities on Sunday. One of his sons, Flávio, was a senator who placed his father among the crowd in Rio de Janeiro.

Flávio later posted a video, which he later deleted his father on the other side of the phone, sending a message to supporters.

Mr Moras also prohibited him from accessing, except for lawyers or personnel authorized by the Supreme Court, using his cell phone directly or through a third party.

Previously, he had been ordered to wear ankle tags to comply with curfews, not use social media, and not contact his son, Eduardo Bolsonaro, who represented him in the United States.

The restrictions were accused of encouraging Donald Trump to interfere in the case.
