Local authorities say a bus carrying a funeral mourner crashed in western Kenya, killing 25 people.
A police report seen by the BBC said the driver lost control and turned to the road and overturned along a ditch on the Kisumu-Kakamega Highway on Friday afternoon. For many fatal accidents, the area is notorious.
Police said 10 women, 10 men and 1 girl died at the scene and 20 passengers were injured, including five serious cases. The four people later died in the hospital, officials said.
Passengers returned from the cemetery and were believed to be a family.
Police said the cause of the crash was not yet known.
The car is a bus from the middle school, but there are no students on board as it is used for funeral transport.
The bus comes from the funeral of Nyahera, heading to Nyakach, about 62 km (38.5 miles).
Kenya’s Ministry of Health called for “emergency blood drive” to help survivors and to “condolences to the loss of loved ones.”
It also urges motorists to exercise caution, especially when the country handles numerous deadly road accidents.
Kenyan President William Ruto called on X to ask authorities to book quickly “those responsible for any negligence that leads to the accident and resolve all violations to ensure road safety across the country”.
Kenya’s National Transport and Safety Agency said they will help investigate the cause of the crash.

Nine people were killed when a bus collided with a train in the town of Naivasha on Thursday, local media reported. According to media reports, another plane crash near Nairobi was killed on Saturday.
Between 2020 and 2021, the death toll on Kenya Road increased by more than 20%. In 2021, more than 4,500 people were killed and more than 16,000 were injured.
