St. Louis Cardinals Starting pitcher Sonny Gray beat the Cleveland Guardians 5-0 on the Improvement Field Friday, one of the most major pitching performances of the season.
Gray, 35, completed the “Maddux” game, pitched nine innings of closed balls while getting one hit and hit 11 hits with just 89 courts.
Gray’s performance marks the first time a pitcher has abandoned 90 games below 90 goals since 2021. New York Yankees Ace Max Fried was the last pitcher to do that, at the time he was part of the Atlanta Braves.

Gray never threw more than 12 balls in an inning and had two or fewer courts. Throughout the game, Gray made 19 shots of the 28 bats he faced.

The Cardinal (45-38) will beat Gray’s performance (40-40) in the second game of the three-game series Saturday at 4:10 pm.
