Coco Gofu Being the first American to lift a trophy in a decade after Roland-Garros’ women’s singles final, she was asked what it means to represent the United States.
After defeating the world’s number one Aryna Sabalenka, French OpenGoff was asked about the feeling of traveling around the world like an American.
“It means a lot. Obviously, a lot is happening in our country now,” Goff replied. Tennis Letter. “Just representing that, it’s the representation of people who look like me in the United States, who may feel unsupported during this time. It’s a reflection of hope and light for these people.”

Goff continues to mention the presidential election of the previous year and the country’s response after the president Donald Trump Electioned for the second term. She calls it the “decline period” in the United States.
“I remember after the election and everything, it felt like a period of frustration. In Riyadh, my mom told me that trying to win the game was just to give people some smiles. That’s what I was thinking about today,” Goff said.
Despite commenting on “Stop Time”, Goff said she was “absolutely patriotic.”

Gauff added: “Some people may feel a certain way of being patriotic and things like that, but I’m absolutely patriotic. I’m honored to be an American. I’m honored to represent Americans who look like me, and those who support what I support.”

The 21-year-old covered her face after an exciting match with Sabalenka. Gauff lost the first set in the tiebreak, but won the second set 6-2 after a 6-4 third set and beat the second set with a second Grand Slam.
The last American to win the French Open? Serena Williams canceled the trophy in 2015.
After the game, Goff said: “The crowd today really helped me because celebrities like Spike Lee, Dustin Hoffman, and others cheered her significantly throughout the game. “You guys cheered me so hard, I didn’t know that my love for the French crowd deserved so much love.” But I thank you. ”
