Colombian President Gustavo Petro on Sunday proposed sending his presidential plane to repatriate migrants returning from the United States, following a stern warning from President Donald Trump.
Trump previously retaliated against the Central American country over oil companies’ refusal to accept deportation flights. The Colombian government said in a statement translated into Spanish that the plane would help facilitate a “dignified return.”
“The Colombian government, under the guidance of President Gustavo Petro, has arranged a presidential plane to facilitate the dignified return of compatriots who will arrive in the country on a deportation flight this morning,” the translated statement said.
