In Star Wars, Darth Vader is generally considered one of the most dangerous threats in the galaxy… in addition to his mystical powers that allow him to kill anyone who opposes him, the Sith Lord has a well-earned reputation. as the fierce warrior who helped eliminate the Jedi. But, the long gone Star Wars Galaxy The MMORPG adds a wrinkle to Anakin Skywalker’s story that even the biggest fans couldn’t predict. According to the game, Darth Vader accidentally saved the galaxy by killing Separatist scientists who were about to release a new droid army powered by the technology of the assassin droid HK-47.
HK-47 Is The Key To It All
The story of Darth Vader accidentally saving the galaxy requires us to go back a long, long time… Knights of the Old Republic. That game introduced HK-47, a fan-favorite droid who loves nothing more than killing people and foreigners who opposes him (to this death-loving droid, all biological entities are just “bags of meat”). Later, the HK-47 was brought back to Trials of Obi-Wan expansion that adds the planet Mustafar and over 50 quests to the classic MMORPG Star Wars Galaxy.
What does this have to do with it? Darth Vader to save the galaxy, though? Before he arrives on Mustafar for his epic battle with former mentor Obi-Wan Kenobi, Star Wars Galaxy argued that the Separatist scientists discovered the remains of HK-47 and were both horrified and impressed by the droid’s ability to kill everything (both droid and organic) that stood in his way when he was reactivated. Defeating the droid’s mind (they couldn’t successfully erase his memory), the scientists stole his chassis and created an HK-77 droid far more advanced than anything the Jedi faced in the prequels.
The same scientists are preparing to create more advanced droids, and it may be enough to change the course of the Clone Wars, allowing the Separatists to defeat the Old Republic once and for all. However, the fate of the Separatists was sealed when Palpatine told the young Anakin Skywalker that the leaders of the Confederacy of Independent Systems were hiding on Mustafar. Now christened Darth Vader, the angry warrior kills these leaders before confronting Obi-Wan Kenobi, effectively halting production of the HK-77 and effectively saving the galaxy.
A Galaxy Lost
unfortunately, Star Wars Galaxy was closed many years ago, and has been since Disney acquired the franchise, all these old stories were removed from the canon and transferred to the status of Legends. That means that this story of Darth Vader accidentally saving everyone’s favorite galaxy far, far away is no longer an “official” part of the Star Wars narrative, nor is the story of HK-47’s body being found. in Mustafar.
However, the droid itself may have returned to the official canon…at least, from one point of view. In Chuck Wendig’s book After: End of Empirethe droid character Mister Bones glitches out at one point and says “COMMENT: I POURED THE BAG OF MEAT AND KEEP YOU OUT OF TROUBLE, MASTER.” This is a echo how HK-47 spoke in the Knights of the Old Republic games, whether it’s fan interpretation if it’s an easter egg or confirmation that the assassin droid program officially came to life thousands of years ago .
For Star Wars fans sick of the Disney era and the misfires of the Sequel Trilogy, the story of Darth Vader accidentally saving the galaxy is a pleasant throwback to the days of the Expanded Universe. In the past, talented writers have found innovative ways to bring together our favorite characters and stories. These days, however, we have to settle for being impressed if Disney can deliver a series (how are you there, Skeleton Crew) who manages the non-Sith in bed, and who makes this particular meat bag endlessly sad years of lost creative potential for sci-fi’s most popular franchise.
