David Cronenberg’s The Shrouds Explores the Future of Death


David Cronenberg is best known for his films that explore how the human body Can be transformed, typically in a fairly terrible fashion. His latest feature, The screws, Continues this with a bad examination of death, sadness and their intersection with modern technology-and leaving the filmmaker a little more personal.

Put in “Tromple Pleasant Almost Freight”, the film centers on Karsh (Vincent Kassel), a Technical Entrepreneur who uses a new program to watch his dead wife (Diane Kruger) decay in real time. Just as he is ready for this Shroud Tech to get a broader release, all graves are currently using it. Soon, Karsh finds himself scraping to find out what is happening and uncertain, with whom to trust – and perhaps including his wife’s sister, with whom he has begun to sleep and is also interpreted by Kruger.

Cronenberg wrote The screws After the death of his wife Carolyn in 2017, who gives further weight to moments in the trailer as Karsh’s open line about a desire to join his late wife in the coffin. The logline calls the film “a deeply personal calculation of sadness and descent to Noir-tinged-Distopia”, which is present in the forecast, along with a little comedy. Cronenberg attended the film at Cannes 2024, where it crawled solid reviews from critics.

Also starring Guy Pearce and Sandrine Holt, The screws Premiere on April 18 in New York and the before its greater theatrical release on April 25.
