Rolando’Rolly’ Romero slammed Canelo Alvarez in an interview, saying his fight with the 147-pound Terence Crawford is an example of how the Mexican star cashed in before retirement.
Is Canelo chasing money?
He said Canelo was just fighting to “make a penny” and didn’t care about his legacy. Romero added that Alvarez (63-2-2, 39 KO) should fight David Benavidez, not Crawford. Rolly believes Canelo and others like him hurt the sport by focusing on money.

Romero: Canelo avoids Benavides
“He is trying to make a penny of money as much as he can. He is not fighting for legacy. Why doesn’t he fight (David) Benavidez? Why doesn’t he fight Benavidez? That’s legacy. It’s a struggle everyone asks for. No one in the world asks for Crawford.
Benavidez is the battle Canelo should have been in, rather than aging 147 pounds with aged 147 pounds, launching 40 pounds, which excelled in its 154 debut. Canelo should show some courage and fight the ‘Mexican monster’ Benavidez five years ago. What Alvarez should do is tell Turki Alalshikh that he is not interested in fighting Crawford and that he hopes for Benavidez in Las Vegas on September 13.
Crawford fights Canelo without any problems, but he should have had to move to 168 and went through fire tests to show that he is worth it:

“These guys paid. They shouldn’t deserve it. Canelo’s case is a little different from the others because at least he sells tickets and pays for the view. I hope Crawford keeps him out because of his disrespect for the sport.
Canelo’s $150 million Crawford wonder
It’s hard to disagree with the people who took the risk on September 13 and fought for real purpose. He is elevating the legacy of three departments, trying to place himself on Boxing Hill and become the No. 1 great of all time. The only thing Canelo is to win is that he will get a $150 million check for the wonder.
