Once upon a time – In the glorious era of Microsoft Messenger (MSN) and Myspace’s “Top Friends”, you can contact Eddie (not Edward) by emailing its_eddie_not_edward@homtail.com. Now, this address is a simpler relic, but its energy remains, and is spread all over this Edward Cuming series, including on T-shirts, cum turns his Hotmail into a slogan. To be clarified: the designer is Eddie and the label is Edward. If it works for him, it works for us.
Cuming said the series began, and he discovered a necklace in a private museum in Ibiza. The wife of the man who built the museum made colorful, stylish jewelry decorated with beads of various colors and sizes that can be sold in gift shops. “They are so beautiful, and I can feel the joy of her putting things together in this random way, and that’s how I work,” the designer said in a showroom in Paris.
Like those necklaces, Cuming’s clothes exploded in a fascinating way with different shapes and colors, and if they weren’t as considerate they would feel random. He knew that even the most miscellaneous things a person made often had a sense of intention. For example, one of the first clothes made for this collection is a fabulous sliding, a nylon skirt with black velvet and a gold Lamé corset decorated with bright red fabric that hangs from a grey jersey. Sitting next to the shelves in the showroom is a device to install cum and work with friends. She tied up endless jerseys, sequins and other fabrics to make a huge, gorgeous knot.
“I really want to focus this season,” Cuming explained, “having honed a lot of the techniques that have gone through time and improved them.” To my credit, this doesn’t mean he’s backing down, it’s just that he’s practicing restraint. There are some tiny sports shorts from silk and denim in the mix. “I should send some of these to the Jurgen teller!” he quipped. He should meanwhile, Harry Styles or Paul Mescal might like a fun sequin dress trimmed with feathers.
“Now, it’s more thoughtful,” he said. Taking the green silk skirt as an example, there is one of his iconic patterns inserted into spirals on each other. Last season’s version hung with fluffy edge lines. It’s back to spring, a little trimmed, and the chopped pieces are even more polished.
