Matchroom reports that Ernesto Mercado was injured and will not be fought against Jonathan Montrel at the Madison Square Garden theater on Saturday, June 14.
Mercado is injured, fight cancelled
The undefeated lightweight class prospect Mercado (17-0, 16 KO) is scheduled to be held in Richardson Hitchins vs. George Kambosos Jr. Jr. Matchroom has not revealed what kind of damage Mercado suffered, 23. Mercado-Montrel will fight in the initial part of the card.
Losing Macado from the card is disappointing because it would be fun to see him fight. He opposed the increasingly better opposition, and soon after he fought his highest contender at the age of 140.
Mercado is interested in fighting Keyshawn Davis as he decided to upgrade to lightweight after being stripped of the WBO lightweight title after failing to lose weight last Friday. Keyshawn probably won’t let Mercado make a proposal to fight him.
Avoiding the next step for boxers
Ernesto was in a position to avoid until he won the world championship as 140. No top fighter wouldn’t be willing to fight Mercado without a belt, or the mandatory nature of him becoming one of the champions. Recently, Mercado summoned Shakur Stevenson, but he ignored his bets by pretending he didn’t know who he was.
The day after Mercado called Nahir Albright, the news from Matchroom said he wanted to lighten his title.
The trump card still has many famous fighters, including Andy Cruz, Teremoana Jr., Zaquin Moses and Pablo Valdez. Promoter Eddie Hearn brings together a great dentist to play alongside the main event between Hitchins and Kambosos.
