Facebook announced On Tuesday, all videos on its platform will soon be divided as reels, regardless of their length or orientation. So far users have been able to share both videos and coils. The company also renames the “Video” tab on its platform to the “Reels” tab. The update will not change what is recommended to you, Facebook says.
In the coming months, users will not have to choose between uploading a video or coil, as it will automatically be shared as a coil. In addition, Facebook coils will not be linked by long or format limitations. (Currently, reels on Facebook can last only 90 seconds.)
The idea behind the changes is to facilitate the video exchange format on the social network. Will not be the first time that a meta-owned platform has done this, like Instagram Started automatically Converting new videos under 15 minutes into coils back in 2022.
“Previously, you would upload a video to feed or post a coil using different creative currents and tools for each format,” Facebook explained in a blog Post. “Now we bring these experiences with a simplified publishing flow that gives you access to even more creative tools. We will also give you control over your audience who sees your coils.”

The change is likely to upset some users as it may present some challenges.
For example, it could be annoying to post a horizontal video if it is uploaded into a vertical coil format. Moreover, users may not want to see longer videos mixed with short.
As part of the change, users’ default settings will now be the same for the nutrition and reels. When users start posting coils after the change, they will be asked to confirm their audience to determine who can see their reels: all, their friends, or chosen a group of people.
After the update, Facebook says it will remain room for all kinds of video content, whether it is short, long or live.
The company says it will gradually come up with the changes worldwide over the coming months.
