For Kesha, the party has just begun

Below, Kesha talks about creating a new album, finding her voice again, why she likes her own Sugar Daddy, and her plans to do a summer tour.

Fashion: Let’s go back to when you first started making this album. What kicked things away?

Kesha: In December 2023 (2023), I received a call saying that I will have no previous deals (with Kemosabe Records) in March (2024) (2024). The second time I got from that deal, I wrote three songs a day, like a lunatic. I have never written so many songs in my life. I have never felt alive, inspired, happy and excited about the future. Because this is my first album to control every word. Every song, every sound, cover, singles –everything. I became very comfortable in trusting my intuition and following my inner compass.

As the album begins to form, what do you want to say?

I hope it becomes the ultimate fucking album of all time. I listen to my new record when I need this power to be my own watchdog. I can really protect my time, space and energy now. Anything that makes me feel free is very cruel about it. Anything that prevented me from reaching my maximum potential disappeared. Even if it is an inner voice that frees me from true freedom, it must go. I really want to do a winning soundtrack at those moments. I want people to wear it, love themselves a little more, protect themselves stronger, and work harder.

It’s safe to say that when you start writing, these songs just poured out of you?

Yes! I wrote two hours of “Happy Ride” and recorded it.

How did you think of that song? This is a genius protagonist, but it is also very unexpected!

With my experience, I had to do a lot of basics and rehabilitation. So in January, before I was really free, I went to Big Sur, and I was a residential artist for this place EthelonInstitute of Human Potential Research. There, I made some friends, one of whom had an accordion. The accordion he made me play in the woods eventually became the inspiration for “Happy Riding.” I was like, OK, I know what pop music needs. It takes a twist of the dance beat, an accordion of intercourse, and a song that immortalizes my ho stage. This is what the world needs!
