A former Clinton adviser praised President Trump’s EU trade journey as an absolute success and said Europeans “scrambled” to reach a deal.
After two days of morning meeting, host Mark Halperin asked former Hillary Clinton and Jared Polis adviser Dan Turrentine if President Trump’s European trade visit, President and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced Landmark trade agreements On his Scottish golf course, the long-time democratic adviser replied “absolutely”.
“Of course, we’re going to trade here,” Turrentine said on Monday.
Trump and Von der Leyen announced the deal on Sunday when his Trump turned to golf club. The agreement stipulates that EU goods will have a 15% tariff, while goods such as steel, aluminum and copper will continue to be taxed at a 50% tax rate. The deal also notes that the EU will invest $600 billion in the U.S. economy by 2028 and purchase $750 billion worth of U.S. energy in 2028, according to a statement issued by the White House.

“For the first time they agreed to cut all taxes, cut barriers, and let American businesses, farmers, ranchers and fishermen end up selling into the EU … large markets. That’s huge for the United States.”
Not only the deal itself, but the facts announced at the President’s Golf Course show that Trump emerged from huge trade talks, Turrentine said. Trump has long been in Europe for friction, accusing the EU of depriving U.S. trade without paying a fair share of trade.

“Europeans scramble for him, and it does sound like Europeans really want to make a deal,” Turrentine said. “Whether it’s German automakers who want to sell cars here, or good French luxury makers talk about the decline in sales, Europeans want to make a deal.”
French Prime Minister Francois Bayrou Criticized the deal When “submit” and say the announcement is “dark days” in the post on X.
“It was a dark day, and a coalition of a liberal nation brought together to affirm their shared values and defend their common interests, resigning from surrender,” Bayrou wrote.

Trump’s trade announcement follows a series of successful trade talks with the UK, Japan, Vietnam and Indonesia. Although critics believe the president’s tariffs will soar and reduce growth, inflation has so far declined from the peaks of the Biden-era era, with the economy growing 3% in the last quarter. However, Trump cited the country’s “negative” trade barriers and commerce, thus imposing a 25% tariff on India. Turrentine said Trump’s trade blitz represents a “new world order” for international trade.
