Southern Florida U.S. Attorney’s Office announced Tuesday Miami Hot Security guards are accused of selling stolen jerseys and other souvenirs worth up to $2 million.

Perez, a 25-year retired veteran of the Miami Police Department, was appointed as a security officer for the Miami Heat from 2016 to 2021, and later served as an NBA security employee from 2022 to 2025, according to a press release from the Justice Department.
Perez is one of a limited number of employees, with a guaranteed equipment room that stores hundreds of game jerseys and other souvenirs that would have been on display at the future Miami Heat Museum.

Perez allegedly visited the equipment room several times to steal more than 400 games’ worn jerseys and other items, and then, according to a press release, he sold it to various online markets. Perez allegedly sold the Miami Heat jersey worn by LeBron James for about $100,000 during the NBA Finals. That jersey was later sold at Sotheby’s Auction for $3.7 million.
The announcement also said law enforcement executed a search warrant at Perez’s residence on April 3 and captured about 300 stolen game jerseys and other valuable souvenirs. The heat confirmed that the items had been stolen from their facilities.

The charging documents say Perez sold the items to an online broker. Authorities said that over three years, Perez sold more than 100 stolen items for about $2 million and shipped them to the state border at a cheap price.
