Former Venezuela chief British chief charged Nalco Taylor

Hugo Carvajal, a former head of military intelligence in Venezuela, also known as “El Pollo” or The Chicken, pleaded guilty to drug trafficking and Narco-Terrorism charges in the United States.

U.S. officials accused the 65-year-old of forming part of a drug smuggling group composed of senior members of the Venezuelan army.

The guilty plea is the latest twist in Carvajal’s death, a crime convicted of being arrested at a hiding place in Madrid, and despite wearing a fake beard and wig, he was found.

Carvajal, a close ally of the late Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez, is believed to have key information about Chávez’s successor Nicolás Maduro.

Carvajal is part of the Cartel de Los Soles, Cartel of the Sun, named after the Sun on the lapels of senior officers of the Venezuelan military – Statement issued by the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Southern New YorkKavajal will be tried in the next few days.

“For years, he and other officials of Cartel de Los Soles used cocaine as a weapon – flooding New York and other American cities,” the statement said.

It added that he worked with left-wing insurgents from the neighboring Colombian Revolutionary Armed Forces, who provided weapons to it and provided the United States with the transportation of cocaine through Venezuela, which he protected.

According to U.S. Attorney Jay Clayton, Carvajal received millions of dollars in payments.

Two years after Carvajal denied all charges filed against him, this fact turned his defense into “crime”, which led to a deal he might have reached for a lower sentence in exchange for a charge regarding Maduro’s government.

The United States accused Maduro of “Narco terrorism” five years ago and imposed sanctions on him and his inner circle.

As a former spy chief, Kavajal is believed to have access to a wealth of information about the current and past Venezuelan government.

The relationship between Carvajal and Maduro was sore in 2017 when Carvajal’s anti-government protests expressed support for the country.

They completely collapsed in 2019, when Kalvajal urged the army to support the attempts of opposition leader Juan Guaidó to overthrow Maduro.

While the army remained loyal to Maduro, Carvajal fled to Spain.

A few years after his escape, he was finally tracked to an apartment in Madrid and extradited to the United States.
